By [Forever Equine] "Christmas Unicorn" | By [Sunny Silverunicorn] "And Your Gift... A Kiss!" |
2004-12-10 [moira hawthorne]: [Daisy le Fleur] Study history and religian for 20 yrs and than ask that question... b/c your enerty has nothing to do with a Christian based holiday!
2004-12-10 [Daisy le Fleur]: Again, no offense was intended to anyone. Christ being the operative word in Christmas is what led me to ask that question. I am not discriminating against anyone. I used no names. I was pointing out something I noticed. Everyone has a right to voice a feeling or thought. Thank you for humoring me.
2004-12-10 [Daisy le Fleur]: You are right, but my entry is good and clean. Thank you for noticing.
2004-12-10 [Sunrose]: I didn't mean to attack you either, just showing you reasons why other images but Christian ones are allowed too ;) and I think moira might mean that Christianity has sexuality too if you would study history :)
2004-12-10 [Daisy le Fleur]: Again, forgive me if I offended anyone about anything. I just feel like lately the true meaning behind Christmas gets pushed aside for what is popular. Myself included, as Moira pointed out. I chose to post an elf at the north pole b/c I was unsure how well an Actual Christian picture would be received. I should stop letting what others think hinder my decisions.
2004-12-10 [moira hawthorne]: yup alots of sex in the Bible!... also Christianity is based on a 1/2 dozen other older religions... and the more you study about its origin the less is fact and the more is speculation...
2004-12-10 [Daisy le Fleur]: Anyway Merry Christmas and good luck to everyone.
2004-12-10 [moira hawthorne]: Merry Yule!
2004-12-10 [Sunrose]: [Daisy le Fleur]: but this Christmas competition, and for that matter the whole community, is based on fantasy themes. That's also why people post things related to fantasy. If you'd rather have Christian images, maybe a Christian community would fit better for you? Anyway no one will critisize you if you post a Christian image here though we do prefer images with a fantasy twist (as say the rules), because the theme of the community in general is fantasy after all (and may I again point out again there's also sex in Christianity.. :)
2004-12-10 [moira hawthorne]: Please Do! [Daisy le Fleur] You are allowed two enerties! Make your 2nd very christian based with no elements unrelated to Christianity and yet with a fantasty twist!
2004-12-10 [Daisy le Fleur]: You are right, I've noticed. There is nothing wrong with fantasy. I am a fan myself, that's why I came to Elftown/Elfwoo
2004-12-10 [Sunrose]: I am not bothered at all! There's nothing wrong with speaking your mind as long as everyone stays civil, right? ;) I hope to see your second entry soon :)
2004-12-10 [moira hawthorne]: Looking forward to seeing your 2nd entery...
2004-12-10 [Daisy le Fleur]: Moira I was not attacking you personally or your art in particular. I don't feel that Christianity is fantasy, but fact. That may not be what you believe or agree with.I would post a Christian picture, but that would then raise the question from others "Where's the fantasy element? Or do you believe that Christianity is solely fantasy?" I'm not here to argue whether Christianity is truth or not. I made a comment about a simple thing that is all.
2004-12-10 [Sunrose]: It also depends on what you consider fantasy. Fantasy doesn't always mean elves and dragons ;)
2004-12-10 [Sunrose]: Also Christianity isn't fantasy no, but it can have elements that are not normal either. Jesus walking over water. No for a religious person that isn't a fantasy, and I am not saying it is, but you could however make an image containing something like that and call it fantasy. Or not? hmmm :/
2004-12-10 [moira hawthorne]: What I believe is based on years of study... I am constantly looking for facts... prove something to me in facts... otherwise it is belief which is opinion... valid to the believer but not fact.
2004-12-10 [Sunrose]: that's also true.. :)
2004-12-10 [Daisy le Fleur]: Fine Moira, you win. I announce to everyone that Moira is right. I give up. I said I am not here to argue Christianity and I am not. So you win Moira. Yay.
2004-12-10 [Sunrose]: woooow....what happened? no one is fighting anyone here. why does it have to end in such a ridiculous manner really? we're all old enough to deal with this in a mature way...
2004-12-10 [FiSHr.]: hmmmmm
2004-12-10 [moira hawthorne]: I think she did lose b/c she left the contest... not for any other reason...
2004-12-10 [Lothuriel]: I was not part of this conversation. I don't mean to push my way in. This comment section is for the discussion of art. [Daisy le Fleur] made a comment about why/what she felt the contest was lacking.
2004-12-10 [Lothuriel]: Just for the record [Sunrose] name five passages from the Bible dealing with sex. Message them to me...because I found none other than that which deals with Husband and Wife...=)
2004-12-10 [moira hawthorne]: And we invited her to add it!
2004-12-10 [Lothuriel]: I know. Like I said, I was not part of this conversation..
2004-12-10 [moira hawthorne]: no its fine ... go tell her to enter her two paintings!
2004-12-10 [moira hawthorne]: ah gee really! how about how Mary got preggers with Jesus!
2004-12-10 [Sunrose]: I still don't quite understand WHY this is turning into some religion discussion! No one told her to take off the image, no one told her she's not right believing what she believes. I merely pointed out Christianity is not the same for everyone and that this community and contest is not about Christianity. I also said a dozen of times no one was trying to get in a fight here, but if this is the way people are going to respond, then I guess it does end up that way. However you can not point at me for the fact that she runs away as soon as someone might disagree with her. If you are a religious person you will always bump into people who might not agree with you, as do I bump into people that
2004-12-10 [Sunrose]: do not agree with me. However this does not make me run away and it would not make me withdrawl my entry from the contest: that was her own choice. I already also said she could just enter her drawings and that no one would look at her differently if she did: religions are not forbidden here. But if you are here you must accept yourself that there will be more things here than the religion you have yourself. :)
2004-12-10 [Sunrose]: PS. do you mean to say people in the bible never had sex? Then how did they reproduce? They couldn't all be like Maria, because then what would be so special about her? anyway that's besides the whole point. Fantasy in this contest is not against the rules, even though it is in origin a Christian holiday (though I wonder if that is actually where it came from: wasn't Jesus a jew?).
2004-12-10 [Apus]: Why do you think Noah brought two of each animal on to the Ark? Why would someone think that a Christian picture would be shunned on this contest? =\ Christmas IS all about Christ's birth afterall!
2004-12-10 [moira hawthorne]: Jesus was a jew. yup he was! and a rebel! misfit! throwing tables around getting drunk at weddings with prostitutes! or having his feet washed by them!
2004-12-10 [Sunrose]: No one said a Christian image is not allowed, as long as it follows the rules :)
2004-12-10 [Sunrose]: These days though Christmas is getting a different meaning, not so much related to the bible. For Christians that might be blasphemy or however to call it, but I would like to respect choices people make...
2004-12-10 [Apus]: [moira hawthorne] Are you sure that was Jesus Christ and not some loco called Jesus (J pronounced as H)? =P
2004-12-10 [moira hawthorne]: well thats from just reading the bible!and being taught at church and my own studys... if the bible says its christ that did those things... than like I said... Id love someone to prove it in facts!
2004-12-10 [Lothuriel]: To [Sunrose] Woah..wait a sec...That was not my intention..I was seriously asking you to send the passages to me in a message...I did not mean to offend. I am a Christian but, my life is not perfect. I like to learn. I am an information sponge. I was only curious to read them and learn about them...I promise...=)
2004-12-10 [FiSHr.]: hrm this is a competition not a religiuos talking point
2004-12-10 [moira hawthorne]: yes and we are alllowed to have conversations aswell...
2004-12-10 [Sunrose]: The thing is: whatever the bible says, this competition and community revolve around fantasy. Everyone experiences things, life and even Christmas differently. If someone feels that the way it's done here doesn't fit with the religious beliefs someone has than that's a personal problem. Elftown is open to the whole world and we can not take every religion in consideration to it's details. May I point out that Christianity doesn't own Christmas. What I don't understand is if fantasy doesn't fit within Christianity, then what were you doing here in the first place? On the other hand, there are plenty of places to go on Elftown if you want to discuss religion. Each contest there are things that
2004-12-10 [moira hawthorne]: gee art should invoke conversation and descussion
2004-12-10 [Lothuriel]: I am a Christian but, I am very aware that Christianity is not the only religion. I respect that. Just because I don't believe the same as you, does not make me better than you. I am sorry if I gave attitude. Everyone is pasionate about something...I find it very interesting to learn about different cultures, religions, and such...I love to learn, like I said. It is nice to see people who are passionate about something heck, Anything these days. I see so many teens and young adults here in Elftown who thrive on "depression" and talk about suicide and how life has no meaning. They shout out in protest about things they really know nothing about. I am rambling again...aren't I?
2004-12-10 [Sunrose]: may offend others or be not the way as how they'd like it to see. Just as the poem contest doesn't accept Haiku poems. This contest doesn't forbid other sorts of ways to view Christmas, just because the holiday itself may be founded on Christianity. Because that would mean we'd have to exclude other beliefs. And now if anyone wants to discuss details about religion, please do so in personal messages or a religion wiki (Religions). I think I made clear by now what the whole point of this contest is and what we would and wouldn't like to see.
2004-12-10 [Lothuriel]: No matter your religion, we all want the same thing don't we? To have inner peace, world unity and happiness for all....Am I right? And I think all the Christmas Contest entries are perfect from an artistic point of view. My Granny always said, "IF you never get right down fightn' mad...your'e not human!" Besides people, it's Christmas....C
2004-12-10 [Sunrose]: moira: you are right, but religion is an area too tricky to discuss on this wiki. // [Lothuriel]: I agree! the problem was more that [Daisy le Fleur] felt some images didn't fit in the Christian belief. Which may be right or not: fact is this community isn't about religion, even though the contest is about Christmas. :)
2004-12-10 [Lothuriel]: That was my original point but, as usual, I got carried away....The people who started this contest made the rules about fantasy and what not in order to envoke our creativity NOT our tempers....lik
2004-12-10 [Sunrose]: The problem with religion is that it's so personal, people get tensed when they feel their beliefs are under attack. It's after all what you base your existence on. However it was certainly not my intention to attack anyone's beliefs, but merely to show that if we don't attack anyone's beliefs we have to leave this contest more open than to just let Christian images be allowed to enter.. :)
2004-12-10 [moira hawthorne]: To Sunrose *bows with a flourish*
2004-12-10 [Sunrose]: (and even about Christian images there can be a discussion on what is considered Christian, as moira pointed out)
2004-12-10 [Sunrose]: [Lothuriel]: that's what we hope to achieve! Creativity and showing each other our talents and results of effort put in the images. You could also say, the fact someone was working on a Christmas image with a certain idea in the back of their mind about peace or love or subjects like that: isn't that also what Christmas is trying to achieve? :)
2004-12-10 [Sunrose]: [Lothuriel]: everyone's two cents are allowed! ;) (Edit: as long as you accept other people's 2 cents too of course! lol! a disscussion can often seem as if people mean it harshly, when I know of myself I merely love discussions and it's not about attacking the person. It's about naming the right arguments to prove your point ;)
2004-12-10 [Sunrose]: moira: Thanks! :D
2004-12-10 [Lothuriel]: I have learned two very important lessons in life. Never debate religion or Star Wars and you'll be okay...lol...
2004-12-10 [Sunrose]: anyway [Lothuriel], if you want to learn more about religion of Christianity, I suggest you talk more with moira. I myself am more into spirituality. Edit: I think moira was raised more in Christianity than I was aside from the fact she studied it a lot as she said. I have been raised in various styles, yet no religion to it's full length :)
2004-12-10 [Sunrose]: ROFLMAO! You could be very right. The 1st one can get people very heated and is one of the basic reasons for all wars over the whole world. I don't know about the 2nd one haha!
2004-12-10 [Sunrose]: Oh wait! *slaps self* star WARS :O
2004-12-10 [Lothuriel]: LOL...By the way [moria hawthorne] is "Santa" available?
2004-12-10 [moira hawthorne]: is "Santa" available? how?
2004-12-10 [Lothuriel]: lol..I was joking about Ullr..you know available for me! lol
2004-12-10 [moira hawthorne]: sure you can sit in his lap aswell! =D
2004-12-10 [Lothuriel]: Hehe...Btw, No. 28? That is different...re
2004-12-10 [Sunrose]: *hugs the babbler* I know how you feel :P
2004-12-11 [Pillowthief]: ? I think some people need a chat room...
2004-12-11 [the Indigo]: i enter!!
2004-12-11 [Lothuriel]: No. 31 is so very sweet.. What medium did you use, [the Indigo]?
2004-12-11 [Sue Falkenkralle]: I love the wings, [the Indigo]!
2004-12-11 [Lothuriel]: No. 31=Why am I suddenly feeling so very unoriginal? LOL...keep'em comming guys, these are great!
2004-12-11 [Elmiira]: number 31 is great! I love it, yay, your such a talent [the Indigo]
2004-12-11 [Lothuriel]: OOps, I meant No. 32 but, I guess it could be said about 31 too, I love them both!
2004-12-11 [Charybdis]: Gorgeous entry, [the Indigo]! ^_^
2004-12-11 [the Indigo]: thanks!!! ^^ *feels special* i used colored pencils *nods*
2004-12-11 [blackphoenix]: so many pretty entires o.O
2004-12-12 [cobi]: i should have one up before the end of the week.
2004-12-12 [sugar_crazy_Fox]: some of these entries are great! ^_^ I really like all of them! ^_^
2004-12-12 [Elegy - gone]: I was just wondering... do the pictures have to have a fantasy/sci-fi theme?
2004-12-12 [Sunrose]: What will we be expecting? Creativity and Christmas themed pictures with a fantasy or sci-fi twist, such as dwarves in Santa Claus suits, a spaceship with Christmas lights - you get the idea.
2004-12-12 [Elegy - gone]: I was just thinking about # 35.... but I guess a halo could be thought of as somewhat fantasy related...
2004-12-12 [Sunrose]: Yes I noticed it. It's hard to say what is fantasy and what is not without offending someone, so I decided not to do anything on that one :)
2004-12-12 [Elegy - gone]: oki^_^ I was just wondering
2004-12-12 [CelebriänEluch]: Wow....I'm going to enter!
2004-12-13 [Mom]: "Your image should be no wider than 300 pixels and the height should be no more than 500"..is this rule still in effect?
2004-12-13 [Dil*]: doh! i'll go re-size mine.
2004-12-13 [cobi]: there it is - it's finaly up. hope you like it.
2004-12-13 [Apus]: Hehe, that's so cool! =)
2004-12-13 [moira hawthorne]: [cobi] LOVE IT!!! LOL! ... but resizing is gonna kill it! :(
2004-12-13 [cobi]: what do you mean? kill it how?
2004-12-13 [Mom]: I agree...300 is so small...I lost half of my detail.=\
2004-12-13 [cobi]: i don't know how much detail ilost in the resizing process but i would definitely like to have it in full size (this is 85% ofit if i'm not mistaken)
2004-12-13 [cobi]: what a coincedence, so do i ;-)
2004-12-13 [moira hawthorne]: cobi its suppose to be 300 width! :(
2004-12-13 [cobi]: thanks
2004-12-13 [moira hawthorne]: so many of the enteries are the wrong size....
2004-12-13 [Erestor]: Mines right, do you think that [Apus] will mind of I make his image work properly?
2004-12-13 [Sunrose]: moira: I guess if people don't fix it themselves the images will be resized by the crew and that might mean some images will look bad... :/ so it's better if people do it themselves... (hints.. ;)
2004-12-13 [Levoton]: but do we have to be so strict about it? After all, 300 as maximum width is pretty small... couldn't the size-rule be loosen up a bit, and if yes, how much?
2004-12-13 [Sunrose]: How would you fit bigger size images on mainstreet? :)
2004-12-13 [Erestor]: Are [Apus]'s Images viewable by you [Sunrose]? It only comes up with the codes on mine
2004-12-13 [Sunrose]: Only 8a isn't showing for me, might be temporary..
2004-12-13 [Erestor]: Neither are working on mine ...
2004-12-13 [Levoton]: Sunny: easily. If we take a look at the Featured Art -pic... it's 300 pixels wide. But there's plenty of room next to the drawing. It could be 400 or even wider just fine.
2004-12-13 [Apus]: My images were hosted by my own webspace, but the server seems to be down! :'( I hope it gets up before the voting starts!
2004-12-13 [Sunrose]: Yes hon, but there are 2 winners ;)
2004-12-13 [Levoton]: Do they really have to be next to each other? ;)
2004-12-13 [Erestor]: Oh right, that's why can't you upload them on Elftown ...
2004-12-13 [Apus]: If not I'll resize the originals and upload them to Elftown!
2004-12-13 [Erestor]: Sunny can I take the place 15 as there's nothing there?
2004-12-13 [Sunrose]: Yes they do, because there are also other things that need attention on Elftown, such as featured art and the featured member And the poems as well...we don't want the pages to take ages to load or be really big. The winners can have bigger versions on their house or wherever they want, it's just better to not do that on Mainstreet :)
2004-12-13 [Levoton]: Meh... so I gotta resize my pic worth 100 pixels...? :)
2004-12-13 [Sunrose]: *hugs* I think you will be able to fix it somehow ;)
2004-12-13 [Erestor]: Sunny I changed all the over numbers after me so they go properly :D
2004-12-13 [Sunrose]: Okay thanks! *hugs*
2004-12-13 [Sunrose]: That was a typo. I typed apu within the brackets and the s outside of them. Elftown has a feature where it seeks the name closest to what you type (if there is any option close to what you typed). I guess closest to apu was [apunkcow] (since n comes before s) :)
2004-12-13 [Apus]: Hehe, I was about to question the hospitality of this wiki! =P
2004-12-13 [Sunrose]: LOL! :PP
2004-12-13 [Sunrose]: Should make a second page, this one is starting to take too long to load :/
2004-12-13 [Erestor]: Lol that's a great name, Apus is better though. *hugs sunny back*
2004-12-13 [Sunrose]: Haha indeed! ;) // Thaaanks! :D
2004-12-13 [Erestor]: Sunny by making a page two does that mean If I have a secound entry it will have to be on the other page?
2004-12-13 [Sunrose]: it would be preferred... :)
2004-12-13 [Erestor]: okie ill try
2004-12-14 [Aidan Ryuko]: how about partially fanart?? like.. a character from an anime in xmas hat.. or whatever.. is fanart ok or does it have to be truly your own character-draw
2004-12-14 [Pillowthief]: you have to draw it, if thats what you mean....No tracing or anything.
2004-12-14 [Sunrose]: what PT says, fanart is fine, but it has to be made by You!
2004-12-14 [Pillowthief]: What?!? No corrections? No slapdown? Are you feeling OK Sunrose?
2004-12-14 [Sunrose]: no >_< ;)
2004-12-14 [Pillowthief]: Triumph!
2004-12-14 [Aidan Ryuko]: okies^^ sunny, eating ice cream might help eh:)
2004-12-14 [Pillowthief]: What?
2004-12-14 [Sunrose]: I didn't get that either...hehe. hey but [Apus]' image is working for me now..
2004-12-14 [Pillowthief]: Yeah, he fixed it quite a while ago....
2004-12-14 [Sunrose]: *^__^*
2004-12-14 [Pillowthief]: Na nana na na.
2004-12-14 [Apus]: The server is back up! =)
2004-12-14 [Sunrose]: See PT it had nothing to do with fixing :PP
2004-12-14 [Erestor]: lol yeah
2004-12-14 [Pillowthief]: Damn, overcommited myself. :PP
2004-12-14 [Sunrose]: *grins*
2004-12-15 [Erestor]: sunrose could you put this beside my last entry as it will then not take up any room: <IMG:stuff
2004-12-15 [Sunrose]: *sends password* ;)
2004-12-15 [StarsFire]: i wanted to change my entry
2004-12-15 [Aidan Ryuko]: well.. no one is stopping you i think?:) or is it closed..
2004-12-15 [Sunrose]: it is passwordprotec
2004-12-16 [Charybdis]: A piece of Elftown's heritage, the Sending of the Password is an ancient ritual, combining the burning of special virtual herbs and incense with increased capitalization of letters in the sacred messages which refer to this long-standing tradition.
2004-12-16 [Sunrose]: *giggles* :D
2004-12-16 [Asrun]: *snatches the ancient password and scuttles away* ^.^ Twee!
2004-12-16 [Charybdis]: H-hey! Come back here! *runs after [Asrun]* Watch it! That's an important historical artifact you're handling there! O_O
2004-12-16 [moira hawthorne]: hehehehehe.... pass it to me Im in the open!
2004-12-16 [Asrun]: *twirls around with it before bumping into Charybdis, causing her to fall over onto her face* x.x dook.
2004-12-16 [Charybdis]: ;_; That's not fighting fair! Fine, then.. *grabs Asrun's ankles* Mwahahaha
2004-12-16 [Aidan Ryuko]: *ties asrun up when she's down!* grab the password back! grab the password back!
2004-12-16 [Asrun]: *gagged and tied up* x.x
2004-12-16 [moira hawthorne]: *grabs password and runs away with it!* mahahahahahaha
2004-12-16 [Charybdis]: Noooo! *tries to run after moira and trips over Asrun* Oh no, I'm sorry! *shakes fist at receding moira* Run, Aidan! Run like the wind! :p
2004-12-16 [Asrun]: *rolls around* MPPPHHH!! MMPPSSHH!! x.x
2004-12-16 [moira hawthorne]: I hid it! yopu will never find it now! its become the holy grail of passwords...
2004-12-16 [Charybdis]: *unties Asrun* Um, ahhh, sorry about that . . . *runs after moira* Thief! Robber! Stealer of valuable antiquated pieces of Elftown's past!
2004-12-16 [Charybdis]: Aha! But I am not Yopu! I will find it sooner or later.. this I swear! *kisses the blade of her Swiss army knife*
2004-12-16 [Asrun]: *sits in a daze, untied* x.X
2004-12-16 [moira hawthorne]: here have a cheese and ham sandwich...
2004-12-16 [Charybdis]: *calls from far away* Do you want an Advil?
2004-12-16 [moira hawthorne]: or I got elderberry/cra
2004-12-16 [Asrun]: *munches on the sandwich and Advil, a piece of parchment can be seen hanging from her mouth* :3 *munch munch*
2004-12-16 [Charybdis]: Um.. Asrun?
2004-12-16 [Asrun]: *peers at Charybdis* Hmm?o.O
2004-12-16 [Charybdis]: *awkward moment*
2004-12-16 [Charybdis]: Eh.. is there anything in that seems, ah, more crispy than usual? -_O;
2004-12-16 [Asrun]: *finishes off the sandwich* the cheese was a bit dry. :3 *burps up a corner of parchment*
2004-12-16 [Charybdis]: Oh.. Can I see that piece of cheese? X_X
2004-12-16 [moira hawthorne]: hey wait thats my shpping list!
2004-12-16 [Asrun]: *burps up a piece of parchment that reads "Cheerios"* o.O
2004-12-16 [Charybdis]: *takes it gingerly from Asrun* I don't believe you! *reads* Tomatoes, soy sauce, lemonade.. @#*&$ .... Um, here you go, moira! All yours!
2004-12-16 [Charybdis]: I'm not sure I want to know what you plan to cook with those.. ^_^;
2004-12-16 [moira hawthorne]: thx! I wondered where that went!
2004-12-16 [Asrun]: ^.^
2004-12-16 [Pillowthief]: ...I missed something, I think....
2004-12-16 [Charybdis]: *grins*
